Lilacs in Bloom and the First Rose

"Just now the lilac is in bloom,
All before my little room;
And in my flower-beds, I think,
Smile the carnation and the pink...
"
Rupert Brooke
The Old Vicarage, Grantchester

" 'Tis the first rose of summer that opes to my view,
With its bright crimson bosom all bathed in the dew;
It bows to its green leaves with pride from its throne--
'Tis the queen of the valley, and reigneth alone."
Robert Gilfillan
The First Rose of Summer

Smile

"Let us always meet each other with smile,
for the smile is the beginning of love."

"We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do."

"Spread love everywhere you go.
Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier."

Turn toward the light

"Earth laughs in flowers."
 ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words.
They are the hieroglyphics of angels,
loved by all men for the beauty of their character,
though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning.'
 ~Lydia M. Child

"'Tis my faith that every flower
 enjoys the air it breathes!"

~William Wordsworth

"Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom.
They just open up and turn toward the light
and that makes them beautiful.
 ~Jim Carrey

♥ Happy Mother's Day ♥

Our Mothers were beautiful, kind, strong and smart women....
we miss you ♥

I received this cool globe solar light for the patio
for Mother's Day from the grands.
Now if we could just have some sun to make it glow

And these beautiful flowers from my hubby

Pass Nothing By

May Day
by Sara Teasdale (1884 – 1933)

"A delicate fabric of bird song
Floats in the air,
The smell of wet wild earth
Is everywhere.

Red small leaves of the maple
Are clenched like a hand,
Like girls at their first communion
The pear trees stand.

Oh I must pass nothing by
Without loving it much,
The raindrop try with my lips,
The grass with my touch;

For how can I be sure
I shall see again
The world on the first of May
Shining after the rain?"

the things you look at change."

Fall to Spring

I see this beautiful tree every time we visit the cemetery.
I like the contrast of the different seasons on all the surroundings there.
Below is the tree yesterday on a sunny spring day.
The new buds are just starting to bloom.

Here is the tree last fall
with its bare limbs on a cloudy day.

Both seasons create such a different mood.

“Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.”

   ― Yoko Ono

“She enjoys rain for its wetness, winter for its cold, summer for its heat.
She loves rainbows as much for fading as for their brilliance.
It is easy for her, she opens her heart and accepts everything.”
― Morgan Llywelyn

Good Day Sunshine

"Good day, sunshine

I need to laugh
And when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about"
Beatles

“Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others
cannot keep it from themselves.”
James Matthew Barrie

“Kind hearts are the gardens, Kind thoughts are the roots,
Kind words are the flowers, Kind deeds are the fruits,
Take care of your garden And keep out the weeds,
Fill it with sunshine kind words and kind deeds.”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.
These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway,
the good they do is inconceivable.”
Joseph Addison

“The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers,
but for the wide world's joy.”
Henry Ward Beecher

I kept seeing Angels in the clouds today.
Smile, be kind to each other and shine.

A Month of Poetry Celebration

April is National Poetry Month.
So I'm postng one of my favorite poems.
This is one of the poems that started
my love for poetry as a child.
Enjoy your month of poetry
and get in touch with some of your old favorites.

Fog
by Carl Sandburg
1878–1967

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Joyous Easter!

The angel said to the women,
“Do not be afraid,
for I know that you are looking for Jesus,
who was crucified.
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay.
Matthew 28:5-6

Give Your Voice

"Dear God most high, hear and bless
Thy beasts and singing birds.
And guard with tenderness
small things that have no words."
